What hidden microphone is best for an outdoor interview?

i am going to be talking to a person outside but i dont want him to know i have a microphone. if i have a lavalier microphone, will that catch his voice too?

You want something more omni-directional, which might be something as simple as a iphone running in voice record mode or a digital audio recorder.

    None of this addresses the legality of recording someone without their knowledge.
